Top 10 Valentine's Day Treats 2016

Happy Valentine's Day Weekend! We are bringing you a round up of some of our favorite treats for Valentine's Day from years past and present!

The best part? Although these treats may look time consuming and fancy, they are all easy and quick to make! Now that is a win win!

1.) Pasta and Wine!
You cannot go wrong with a delicious Italian meal and wine. Try our Shrimp fra Diavolo recipe or our Pasta Goo-Gootz.

Yes. You can have chocolate ganache as your entire dessert!

These look so fancy and difficult to make, but you will be amazed at how quick and easy you can whip these up! No pastry chef skills required!

Keeping with the French theme, you can also whip up some profiteroles!

You can make these as the traditional round cookies with a Hershey kiss, or get cute and cheesy and form them into hearts!

Getting back on the French train, make some Madeleine's (these are coconut infused, but you can make vanilla) and dip them in chocolate!

7.) Chocolate Fondue
For this treat, you can find our healthier tips on our other site, fairburnitoff.com. This takes a few mere minutes to make, and you can dip whatever your heart desires into the fondue!

Simply melt some chocolate and dip strawberries in and you are good to go! Visit here for tips on how to make these.

If you need a quick chocolate fix, then this is your treat! This is also a healthy treat featured from fairburnitoff.com

And guess what!? These are actually healthy! See the recipe and video on how to make these easy, healthy treats here.

Happy Valentine's day!

Go Nutty! Top 25 Almond Recipes

As much as I love to bake and indulge in some not-so-healthy treats, I also love to find ways to eat healthy without sacrificing taste! Nuts are a great way to still get great flavor, but also a healthy boost! One of my favorite go-to nuts are almonds.  Almonds are a healthy fat (yes, our bodies need fat), and pack a powerful punch with fiber, protein, vitamins, and antioxidants! This means that almonds can help fight against aging, diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer's, can help control blood sugar, lower cholesterol, and even help to make you feel more full so you do not snack more! To read more about almonds and their benefits, visit here.

Now that we've talked about how great almonds are for you, let's get to the good part - eating them! These delicious nuts are not just for snacking! There are so many ways you can enjoy almonds, so check out the recipes below.  I dare you to choose just one!

1. Homemade Granola from your very own Cultural Dish

2. Almond Joy Smoothie Bowl from the Full Belly Sisters

4. Roasted Almonds from A Dash of Megnut

5. Date and Almond Hamantaschen from Busy in Brooklyn

6. Nutty Lime Smoothie from 2 Cookin' Mamas

9. Slow-Cooker Cinnamon Sugar Candied Almonds from Persnickety Plates

10. Fruit & Yogurt Parfait with Homemade Granola from The Life of a Wife

13. Roasted Tomato Basil Pesto from Pumpkin and Peanut Butter

Now as healthy as almonds may be, that doesn't mean you can't add them to a delicious dessert! The best part? Many of these recipes use almond flour and/or are vegan and gluten free!

17. Clementine Cake from Chef de Home

18. Smoked Almond Chocolate Chip Biscotti from Diary of a Mad Hausfrau

19. Chocolate Almond Torte from The Hungary Buddha

20. Almond Clementine Bundt Cake from Poet in the Pantry

21. Coconut and Almond Cream Pies from With a Blast

22. Almond Butter Thumbprint Cookies from A Calculated Whisk

Please note, The Cultural Dish was asked to create this post by nuts.com, but my statements about almonds are all my own and what I personally believe.

Mac Nut Slaw (Hawaiian Cole Slaw) Recipe

This week's Food Network summer soiree theme is slaw! Slaw is a staple side dish in the summer, especially when eating fish.  However, slaw doesn't have to be the sad, steeping in a pool of mayo, side dish that many think it to be! There are so many variations of slaw that you can make to help jazz up the dish, but in honor of our recent stay in Hawaii, we'll be recreating the Mac Nut Slaw!

 Mac Nut Slaw

Ingredients (makes one large batch)

For the Slaw
-5 cups shredded red and green cabbage
-1 cup shredded carrots
-1 cup diced pineapple (plus extra if you really like pineapple)
-1 red onion, sliced
-1/4 cup chopped cilantro (optional)
-1 jalapeno, seeded and diced (optional)
-3/4 cup toasted and crushed macadamia nuts

For the Slaw Dressing (can cut in half if you like less dressing on your slaw):
-3 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
-3 tablespoons champagne vinegar (optional)
-3 tablespoons soy sauce
-2 tablespoons honey or agave
-1 to 2 tablespoons of freshly grated ginger (add your preferred amount if you like more or less - fresh ginger is much stronger than powdered)
-1/4 cup sesame seed oil

Please note, if you are very short on time, you can always buy a pre-made mix of slaw and then just add the pineapple and mac nuts and make the dressing.

Directions:
In a large blow, toss together all slaw ingredients and set aside.

For the dressing, in a separate bowl, whisk together the first five listed ingredients.  Carefully whisk in the oil until the mixture starts to come together and emulsify.

Pour the dressing over the slaw and toss to coat. Serve as a side dish or all on its own! Enjoy!
